Where to post a Warning about ascam artist?
« on: March 27, 2013, 10:32:12 AM »
I really dont know where best to post this. I think it's important for people to be aware of because he's selling projects and now posting Rat Rods on facebook.

WARNING - WARNING- WARNING
A person named Larry Brown is presently offering for sale, 2 55 chev convertibles in primer, a red metallic 55 Nomad with dummy spots and lakes pipes and an original black and white 57 Nomad. He is marketing on many car sites and through his own web page. He has a multitude of projects and promotes sales of parts and his latest gig is to start marketing using the term, "Rat Rod" to lure people in.

Before purchasing anything from Larry Brown aka Collector Cars and Parts Exchange be forwarded of my experience.

I recently negotiated a purchase of a 55 Nomad with Larry.

We agreed on a purchase price of $28750 plus shipping on the following conditions.
1) That the car title be in his name
2) That pictures of the vin tag and registration would be sent to me.

Larry Brown agreed to this and requested a $500 deposit be sent to him via Western Union.

The Western Union was sent to him on Saturday, March 16th.

On Monday, March 17th, Larry Brown messaged me to say that HE WAS NOT WILLING to put the vehicle in his name, ( this breaches our agreement).

He then said he WAS NOT WILLING to provide photos of the vin tag or registration ( again breaching our agreement). - This makes it impossible to do a lien search putting my complete investment in risk not knowing if the car has a lien or if has been reported stolen.

I was able to discover that the car is not his, that is is located in Iowa and he does not have the authorization to offer it for sale.

At that time I insisted that my deposit be refunded, which he agreed to and said he was going to town to do it and he would send the MTCN money transfer number. He then stopped returning emails.

After repeated attempts to get my deposit back I traced him to his home in Quincy Illinois. It's not the location he shows on his facebook as doing business in Taylor, Missouri. He lives in a rooming house in Quincy.

I contacted Larry by email again and identified that I knew his actual location. To expedite the recovery of my money, I reported him to the police in Illinois. A criminal investigation was launched by a Detective Wheeler. I sent one final email to Larry Brown and informed him that I was seeking criminal charges. He then promptly returned my money, but my investigation into his business ethics continue.

For starters, Larry Brown is not a licensed dealer and Collector Cars and Parts Exchange is not licensed businesses in Illinois or Missouri.

I have documented history of Larry taking pictures of a vehicle and telling the owner he just loves the car. He then posted the pictures of the car for sale on his website when in fact the car was not for sale nor was he authorized to sell it. When he sold the car on line, He approached the real owner demanding papers for the car. The owner asked him to leave and Larry was furious with him.

I have also been able to track down 2 of the cars listed on his website that are also on ebay being sold by someone else.

Be very careful and aware of Larry Brown aka Collector Cars and Parts Exchange he is located in Tyler Missouri, he sells on Ebay, facebook and other places. Please google Larry Brown or Collector Cars and Parts Exchange and know who you are dealing with before you attempt to do business with him.

I continue to collect information for Detective Wheeler in regards to Larry Brown.
If you have been affected by Larry Brown and or Collector Cars and Parts Exchange, please PM me and I will forward you the contact information for Detective Wheeler.

Thank you.

Outside of the BS Room this looks about as good a place as any. I remember reading your story somewhere.
All we, the concerned and honest rodders can do is be on the look out and post any and all carpetbaggers.

Thank's for the heads up, hope they nail him hard.
wonder what people would say when some guy that "just loves that car" then wants legal paperwork for the car.

I will move this to the B.S. Room. I have been dealing with this guy for a while now trying to shake him off my leg. I think i finally got it done, so thanks for the heads up. I was going to make a post like this, but as a site owner, i had been trying to stay neutral until he stole my rat rods for sale group name.
Thanks again for the heads up LeadFreddie..

Still keeping tabs. After the article  that you posted, then I put up on my wall I have not heard a thing from him. I figured that he would say something after his "I will sue" ordeal. But I am sure that he will pop up somewhere as someone.
