I pay for the stuff I don't have the equipment, the skill, or the patience to do myself!!

Sometimes it's hard to admit that I can't do it all, but I've found it cheaper and faster to farm out things that I don't do or don't do well rather than wasting time, materials, and especially money when I can spend those on the stuff I do well.

If you do farm it out, it's better to pay full price for the best than to cut corners and get less than satisfactory results!

The best isn't always the most expensive.

I am with Blackwater on this! Do what You can do well, but, don't try to get yourself in over your head, get Frustrated by how things are turning out and give up. There are Quite a few people on here that can, And Will give Good Helpful advise, and just may know of someone in Your area that could help get You past whatever obstacle is in Your way!

Totally agree, do what you can and seek help for the things you can't do. You'll see allot of builds for sale that are almost complete, but the wiring was/is out of their knowledge base. Instead of finding help, they post their ride up for sale.

Lol, it would be fun using company equipment to build car parts but I agree, not worth loosing you job. Need money to build our toys.

How long you been with the cnc? I hit 25 years at it this month. I also run a part time shop after I leave the full time job. Pays the bills to have our little "toy" shop. I started out on the machine centers, verticals and horizontals. Got to the point where every night was new set ups, writing programs, making fixtures. After a enough years of that you do get a little burned out on it. I was lucky enough during the big recession and lay offs to move to the turning/bar machines (naka-mura's) Its now my area on 3rd shift and I like it. Night goes by quicker when the parts run quicker.
