I know you guys are probably Tired of hearing me ask advice...
« on: September 14, 2012, 02:29:31 PM »
I have been doing alot of "LIGHT" Bodywork to my 49 Chevy 4dr..Because frankly..I'm kinda lost on what drive train to use..Ok...I have a SWEET 250 6cylinder...My plans all along was just to put her together and run her..But then we picked up a GREAT 350...and now I traded some labor for a running 454ci..Any 1 of the 3 drive trains I have to change the rear end..No BIGGIE...The 250 would be great as the suspension wouldn't need much modification..The 350 and the 454 are probably to much for the stock suspension and brakes...As I have said before this car is my last Hurrah...To be totally honest even seeing it finished 1 way or another is questionable...What do you think...HONESTLY...Build it quick with the 6 and leave it to my kid to redo when dad's gone..Or ENJOY the build and go a completely different direction as far as Bad Azz...To be honest I am just loving the part of tinkering and removing a dent here and there...I can see the old Girl in all her glory running down the road in my mind...I'll tell you 1 GREAT thing about this car..Working on it has gotten my son fired right up on his old D100..I've done more work on it than my own..LOTS of good memories in these 2 old Rats...Thanks Friends... :D

I'm thinking the sbc 350 may be in your future.
should be a fairly easy swap, not much weight difference, good horsey power, tons of bolt on's (might even be pre- made motor mounts if'n ya need em)
Just my opinion,,, and may not be worth even what ya paid fur it.

Man, isn't that always the dilemma. The older I get, the shorter term I want my projects to be. If you're having fun now, keep the project as short and simple as possible. Don't make it a burden. I'd install the 350 (more power, better sound) and leave the suspension and rear as is (for now) and see how long you can get away with driving it and how much fun you can have until something breaks - if ever!     :P

I too would go with the 350. I know it's more work, but it will move your car down the road in a heartbeat.....
