Title: Rebuild of my '40
Post by: 10asee on January 12, 2012, 05:35:12 AM
I traded for the 40 early this Summer. After trading for it I noticed a lot of things not quite right. So I am going to fix some of the things that are wrong. The cab supports (if you want to call them that) are 1/8 x 1 inch straps welded to the bottom of the floor. The Radiator support was made from 1" angle not even close to being square. The master cylinder leaks and the rod is a cobbled up mess. So that will be moved to the Firewall. The trans tunnel takes up way to much room, so that will be changed as well as the firewall.  There are no shocks on the rear. That will be fixed as well. The battery is impossible to get to without removing the floor of the bed.
Aside from that I love my little truck. Just got to get it set up for longer, and trouble free rides.

The motor is a rebuilt 305 and recently rebuit T-250. The motor taking its place is a SBC 350 that i rebuilt with the help of my Grandson and a T-400 tranny. The 305 and trany are for sale if anyone is interested.

Here is the cab off version. LOL. Plans are to extend the frame, move the grill behind the front axle, Build a real floor in the cab. Also put on front single spring and different upper shock mounts. The cab will also recieve a flat firewall. And will be mounting the master cyl. on the firewall.

The threaded holes in the frame rails is how the body was mounted. No rubber or any type of floor support.
So cab was starting to sag. Of course with my Fat ass riding in it I guess I would start to sag too. LOL.

It's amazing the shortcuts people will take !!!!! No proper floor framing/supports , no proper mounts . Cab was waiting for a collision to become an UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECT !!!!!!

Good stuff you have there 10 . And the short helper, that is kool to see. So what does he want you to build for him? Or is he talking about taking over the 40?

Started cutting the frame finally. Gone to far to turn back now.Lol.
Used new cordless portaband by Bosch works great.
Welded some L channel to make it easier to square frame when i start welding in the 12inch sections.
