Field of rusty dreams
« on: October 22, 2013, 05:25:14 PM »
A couple shots of a bunch of old AD Chevy and GMC trucks, all sizes, that are sitting on an old farm close to me. Have left a lot of notes about being interested in buying. Notes go away but no calls. Guess they'll just look kool as they rust away. Lots of nice optional parts on them. Maybe like my girl said, the owner and his dad collected them and the memories are too good. Right around the corner are several 70's Broncos!! And a couple of late 60's Cougars. It's a great ride on gravel and dirt roads.

I've found when you try to persuade someone to sell you one of their "collection" it's helpful to be specific. In other words don't say, "Do yo want to sell that car?"  Instead, figure out exactly which car you want and how much you'll pay for it. When contacting the owner (by note or whatever) say, "I'll give you $1500 for the 1948 Chevy pickup."  Now they know you're not just a looky-loo.

I guess that would help, but personally I'm not going to go over into the guys field and crawl all over his trucks to find out if they are even in good enuff shape to even make an offer on. I attempted his mailbox and front door. Even left gift certificates for her restaurants with notes on them. Found that with country folks you leave their stuff alone.

True on country folk. But sure be nice to find an insider, someone that knows that knows someone. I know that is the way that I get around.

True. Sometime over the last twenty years country folk have changed from "Welcome stranger" to "Get off my property!"

Too many pushy city folk trying to get something for nothing from them. Makes them wary of everyone. This is a working cattle farm but the farmhouse is unlived in. Old folks probably either passed away or in nursing home, son running the farm. Got 3 deer stands around the perimeter of the fields. 30.06 with scope. I'll stay out of his fences.

Those are some nice finds. I recon all a person can do is keep an eye out for someone on the property and swing in and talk cars. Make em an offer and see what happens.

Watch "American Car Prospector" take notes. This dude had some one walk up too him with a shotgun in hand.  He ended up buying the 911 that was under wraps. But still to watch this guy.

Anyway like you are saying just be vigilant and bide your time.
