38 Chevy truck bed idea.
« on: June 11, 2012, 04:10:04 PM »

So I have built a whole new Bed for my 1938 Chevy truck project out of steel, I like the way it looks but it is on the heavy side, might be a good thing as it will help with traction.

Started to think that I might want to rebuild the main side pieces out of Aluminum, was thinking I might have them polished then have some flames powder coated on over a portion of the polished side.
that would look very cool...any thoughts?
Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

My local Power Coating shop has a whole wall covered in examples of their work, got the idea while looking at it last time I was in there.

2 of the last boxes i've built from scratch, i left in metal. They look heavy, but once you actually have em on the vehicle, they aren't as bad as you would think. Even though i like the idea of aluminum, i think with that box i would do a wood bed. But then again, it just depends on the avenue you want your ride to go. I'm a little old school and like the hand crafted metal stuff....With a little bit of wood as an accent.

I think what you have looks good. I do think the powder coat idea is also cool. But at the end of the day you have to please one person.  Right?

I have the same concept bed for my 46 GMC, all I did was find a trailer, take the sides off and make the end pieces. weld em together and done, due to using the trailer it cut back on weight too. It was an older trailer so it had a couple ding and dents but I thought it gave it character
