new guy from so. ILL
« on: August 21, 2013, 08:20:15 PM »
What's up everyone? Newb here from Southern IL.  Just stumbled across this site and recognized some car show pics from my area. I just picked up a 52 Chevy one ton drw. I know I'm gonna slam it and  shorten the rear. Not sure about up front yet....I would like to loose the front fenders but not sure what options I have. Looks like a good site to learn a few things and if anyone has any suggestions or pointers hit me up!

Well better late than never....without further ado my rusty beauty! What do you think? I'm thinking bob the rear and make it low. I'd like to move the front axle forward hot rod style but not sure exactly how to go about it. Any suggestions would be welcomed. I'd like to keep it true rat and do this with budget in mind.

I love those 48-54 Chevy/GMC trucks. Would like to have one for a daily driver.

Depending on your skill level, you may wanna look at putting the body on something like an S10 frame, or a do it yourself frame. The big suspension frames like that are a bit hard to work with as far as moving the front suspension forward. It can be done, but it's allot of work.

I agree. The S10 swap seems to be popular for the ease of use and the readily available suspension parts that are still on the market. Some people dislike them because the frame is so much larger in the front then the old frames but to each his own. It is your rat rod. Do what you like. This group won't talk shit about anybody for what they create. Now those douchebags from that other site, they would.

Lol....I bet they would. Although its been recommended for ease I'm not going to use a s10 frame I'm going to do it the hard way and use the current frame and as much of the original parts as possible. Or should I say reuse. I've got the front suspension mocked up and should have it done for the most part by the weekend. I'll post some pics when closer.

Well here's the pics of the progress I promised awhile back. As you can see I went with elliptical spring front end. Not quite finished yet and bobbed the rear and sectioned the frame. I've just been working on it here and there. Once I get the frame welded and plated in the rear I still need to rebuild the steering linkage and make some trailing arms. Everything I have done so far I have reused original parts other than the hangers I used on the front end and u bolts I picked up from rural king.

Well I will have to get more pics up soon. She is a roller again! Rear frame is welded and plated and the front end is done. Next on the list is finish welding the drive shaft since I shortened it and re plumb the brakes
