do you have any pic of what you are building as far as a tank . I am not sure if it should be ALUM.  or steel can go either why . 18 ga steel or 0.80 alum or 1.25 alum .?

If you don't want to build, look at a 1995 Mitsubishi p/u tank. The are small enough for most frames, have a bracket set up on the tank so you bolt it in nicely. They are 16" tall, 16" wide and 32" long.

I don't have pics at the moment can get some Thursday when I go back to work...mine is a 14 1/2 o.d. size made of 14. Gauge 304 Stainless and 3/16 dished heads on the end I work at a Fab shop so I just got scrap parts that were meant for pharmaceutical tanks I will put a baffel in the middle cut to fit the I.d. of the tank and then cut a straight 2 inch off top and bottom for flow a 2" ferrule on top for filling and will drill and tap the cap and put a fitting with a ATV style vent .
.....bottom will have a fitting for my fuel line and I will be putting in two fittings in the side wall one near top and one near bottom with a clear pwice of hose for a old school sight glass fuel gushed look....I have only put on the first head and welded it and the shell seam and fit up head but did no real fitup work as far as dollying etc so it has a rat look and will leave it all as is as far as welds unground color left leave dents scratches etc

I will build out of 0.80 ALUM. the shear I have will not cut much more than that . I like the S.S. idea and have some 3/16 in the shop but would have to send it out to have fab. up then welded

I have a 60 gallon air compressor tank that I was thinking of chopping and sectioning down to about 15 gallons or so. The other thing that I was looking at is a used 14 gallon propane tank which will actually hold about 17 gallons of liquid.

When I build them myself I fill them with water first to check for leaks. I always have one or two leaks...or seven  :-[

Nowadays I just buy them from Ron Pope Motorsports custom built to my dimensions from 18-gauge steel. His welds don't leak!

I got a Speedway round poly tank complete with mounting brackets on Craigslist for $30 (pic attached). You might keep your eye out for a bargain like that.

I ended up not using it because it was 1/4" too wide for my frame rails   :-[
