The Merc
« on: September 26, 2011, 12:27:21 AM »
Well I have managed to melt the coil and my Petronix on the Merc. This keeps happening, any sugesstions. They usually last about 150 miles worth of driving, then the same thing, and I don't like spending $150.00 every 150 miles. HELP my broke ass....someone?

Not knowing or seeing the set up, i would have to agree with grumpy, install a ballast resistor......

One thing you have to look at is what type of Petronix do you have, they make two different types one requires a Ballast Resistor and the other doesn't require a resistor. Are you running a coil from Petronix ? That might be the problem, those systems sometime only work well with parts made by the same manufacturer( just a thought ).

Jimmy, Is this car 6 Volt, Positive Ground or 12 Volt , Negative ground ?? Makes a big difference on what you need to add to get the Pertronix Ignitions systems to operate properly.
