The Chevy 307 has always been under rated in terms of performance. (I mean we're not talking mountain motors here) But its a far better engine choice than the newer 305's if you are stuck with tiny cubic inches. And they can really wake up if you find the right parts. I pocket ported a set 416 castings with a 216/216 @ 50 hydraulic camshaft, 1.5 roller rockers, 1 5/8 full length headers, 450 Holley (manual secondary), Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, +20 over bore, 10.5 compression, 2500 converter, 4.11 rear gears, 29.5 tall tires at 8.5 tread width, and a WHOLE LOT OF ONE WHEEL PEEL!!!
I drove this engine daily for years, pulled trailers, etc. It was decent for being tiny.
