Topic: paint removal/oxidation

I am trying to remove paint from an edelbrock aluminum intake to restore its original look..And where the paint has chipped off its oxidized.Any tricks on removing these???

Take it to a carburetor shop and see if they'll dip it for you.  That caustic cleaner will remove paint right down to the metal and won't damage the manifold.  Some of the old school transmission shops also clean transmission cases using the same cleaner.  Wash it thoroughly when you get done.  That stuff will remove skin just like it removes paint and crud!!

Good idea ^^^ also machine shop hot tank.  Media blasting would work too, but you'd have to be careful to not damage the surfaces. If you have patches of different colors left over, just spray paint it all silver - makes it look like brand new bare aluminum.

Some that I have done, I took them to a shop and had them bead blasted, not the glass beads. Looked brand new when I got em back. Then sprayed engine clear enamel....

I've heard that bead blasting can destroy the original finish.

Brake Parts Cleaner will strip paint off as good as anything. Some carb cleaners do too.
