I always have mine done by a shop that can also balance it,   I had a 54 Chevy that had a ford 9 inch rest and 350 tyranny,  I
Had a custom yoke shaft built for it.

I have friends who do their own using a lathe and runout dial, etc but I just have 'em done by a shop. It's quick, reasonably priced and I don't have to worry about balance or runout.
