It all started with the purchase of a SBC on CL for $100.  Cleaned it up mic'd it out and it should be ok for a build.

Then one day I found a decent Powerglide on CL $90.  Cleaned it and it rotates nice.  Should be a good target for a rebuild.

Then the big day came at the phx swap meet "Pomona". Was browsing though many isles and saw Hoss. It was marked down from $150 to $125!  A chop was started including the doors. The attempted reassembly was pretty poor. The drivers door says "Little Joe". Thus the name "Hoss" was created.

Three months later I found a diff at the swap meet from a old camaro. It looked pretty greasy but rotated nice.  The guy wanted to get rid of it so I got it for $50. It turned out to have 411 gears.  It should be fine for my project.  I have the posi unit for it.  Powerglide and 411, it should be a smoky ride :)

Time to repair the chops that the previous owner "started". First was the roof chop. I used a jig to pull the roof square while tack welding in the spacer plate.

Started frame work in the fall when it started to cool off. I used my mill to cut the angles on the step ups.  I also included a self portrait!

Time to assemble the frame. I had made two sections.  One was for the rear end, one was for the body.  Dragged everything to the driveway and got it together.  After significant measuring remeasuring, clamping and lots of welding I dragged the frame back indoors.  The body set down nicely and I made body mounts.  Welded nuts on the backside and it works great.

I installed the rear end with a leaf spring over the diff.  Shocks, Watts linkage and four point bars installed.  I made my own leaf spring mounting plate on my mill.

Installed the transmission and motor.  Worked very hard to make sure it is setting correctly.

Got a hair up my butt that the car was getting too long so I decided to shorten the rear by 18".

Got some nice ladders bars from so cal here in Phoenix. Had to lift the body and redesign the crossmembers.  Turned out nice.

I am running the headers inside the frame and needed to run the exhaust through the frame.  I used 4.5" DOM pipe.

Needed to make a driveshaft tunnel for inside the cab.  I got a piece of thin walled 8" pipe and split it down the middle with my plasma cutter.  Welded on 3" angle.  It is ready for installation.  I also included pictures of inside the cab.  You can see the 2x4 that I have pretending to be a driveshaft.  I have a nice driveshaft kit and plan to set that up next before welding in the tunnel.

Ha ha, whatever you do, don't paint over the $150/$125 written on the roof - that's classic!
