Glass re-installation
« on: March 26, 2012, 03:09:29 PM »
I have been searching for help re-installing my windshield, back glass panels but cant find anyone with experience that doesnt want an arm and leg to help me out.  I didnt really see any info in the forum iether.  My windshield is original and pitted, so if it breaks no biggy probably should buy a new one anyways.
I think I will just attempt it myself.  Any of your advice will be helpfull.....
I cant feakin wait fill the sun comes back out and I can get back to work on my car again its been a long cold winter!

OK , I'll try to explain this but it's so much easier to teach this in person while doing it .

 # 1 have a helper , your rubbers , your glass and the following items ----- two  plastic glasswork pry sticks , a glass installation hook- Metal , a bottle of Joy standard dish soap , a spray bottle a 15 ' piece of strong smooth string about 1/8th thick . These are all very cheap .
# 2  Wait for a nice sunny warm day , lay the rubbers out on a paved surface in the sun for a couple hours .
# 3 Use a watered down dish soap solution in a spray bottle as a lubricant when you put the glass in .
# 4   one person on the inside and one outside .
# 5 insert a strong thick piece  of string into the grove of the rubber  all the way around .
# 6 Install the rubber into the opening .
# 7 Without forcing it , insert the end corner of the glass into an end corner of  the groove of the  rubber carefully working more of the bottom and one side into the groove .
# 8 When it becomes difficult one person must continue pressuring it into the grove while the other starts pulling the cord out so that it pulls the lip of the rubber out and the glass slides in a bit at a time ( GO SLOWLY !!!!!! )
If you've understood these badly explained steps lol then you should have no problems .
I've attached a pic of the plastic bars which can be gotten at any glass shop but I can't seem to find either of my hooks at the mo  :-[ But they are just like an awl but bent .
