Check the engine you have!!  May be something as simple as a timing chain!!  No compression all the way around is usually something like that!!

Pull the rocker arm cover and make sure the valves haven't stuck.

Figure the difference in cost to you.  Then figure what your time is worth and whether you're in the mood and have the assets to rebuild.  Remember that if you build your own engine, you can have exactly what you want and will KNOW what's in it!!

As close as I can figure I would save about $1200 to $1400 if I do it my self , very seldum count my time because I enjoy it . I have everything to do it , this would be just rod bearings and rings and do the heads . Everything is very clean in the motor other than carbin  around the valves and tops of pistons

Cleanslyness is next to Godlyness in an engine. Then check check and double check fitments. Take your time and you will do fine.

I'd jump all over the rebuild!!  I MIGHT take it a little farther, but that would be the direction I'd take!!

the only thing I can wash the motor down with is a power washer and then dry with a air hose

If you can get it tanked and new freeze plugs I would as the old ones rot from the inside. Also have the cam bearings done too. After that mostly common tools and a torque wrench.
