53 Chevy Truck
« on: December 11, 2012, 08:19:23 AM »
Here is one of my builds thats in the shop now. I picked up this 53 Cab on Sept. 27th, then got the frame in November. Been working on them both little at a time.
Here is the cab in tow.

Started on stripping and the chop. I took out 2 7/8" which allowed me to keep the full back window.

This is just a shot of what the cab stance will be.

Putting it back together. I wanted this to look like its been put together by hand and not on an assembly line.

Located this frame locally and offer the guy $150, he said he would deliver it for $200.

Decided to keep the parallel leafs up front and just Z the frame in the front and rear.

Then started on the rear of the frame. Removed the stock rear and leafs and picked up a 12 bolt from my dad to go in with some ladder bars.

Now im working on cutting out some fish plates and boxing in the high stress areas. Hope to have the rear mounted up before the new year and getting rolling. As for the power train I have a 402 BBC but really want to put a 455 in it. Well see.

Got my front fish plates cut out, mocked one up to get an idea how they will look. Should stiffen it up pretty good. They are made out of .250 diamond plate.

The diamond plate adds a good look to it and should be good and strong .

Thanks
Got the fish plates on and removed the front axle so I can work on the frame easier and get the welds finished.

Pulled the leaf packs today, removed the 2nd and 3rd spring from the bottom. Going to clean and paint them, put some grease between them and reassemble with some new bushings and hardware from LMC. Hope they ride good.

I did pick up some cool WWII Oxygen tanks, kinda thinking that these could be my fuel cells?

looking great , glad to see you over here at the nation , you'll get a lot more input on your build here than over at MSR.

I really love those tanks you scored there. I can see them with the valve cut out big enough to put some headlights in, I think they would make some huge unusual looking head lights :)

What i have read is they hold about 10 gallons in them. With the 2 that will be plenty of fuel .

Got some more fish plates cut out, should get them on in the next few days.

The flames are kinda tough to cut with a torch but in the end they will look pretty good.
