64 Falcon Rat Rod
« on: May 31, 2017, 06:59:34 PM »

Was gonna restore the thing but I could buy one already restored for less money.

Was gonna sell it but I had a $1000 dollars in it and don't like to lose money.

Sooooo .... I'm going with a ratty funny car look ... 700HP 496 BBC popping up out the hood and I mean valve covers and all to give it that cartoonish look  with a BIG ASS solid roller cam and 2 1/2" zoomies coming out the fenders  .. 2 four tunnel ram N/A .. TH400 4000 stall converter ... Narrowed 9" ford with full spool, 35 spline 4.30 gears.

Gonna try a front clip from a 97 Blazer for front suspension ... but the more I look at that front clip the more ugly it gets but I already bought the thing and new bushings and ball joints.  Wish I would have went the Mustang II front suspension and might still before it's over with.

Always wanted to build a fat tire skinny tire car so this is it ... 28x11.50x15 Hoosiers on torg thrust wheels ... skinny 14" on the front.

Bought some 2x3 steel for the frame .... and I know lots of guys are gonna bitch but I bought 1 1/4" PIPE for the roll cage ... you guys can say what you want but I trust pipe any day after I stick weld it with some hot 7018's ... a little heavier but a lot cheaper .;.. it's only a Rat Rod anyways  ... never gonna try to win races.

The pics are just the body parts stuck together after I got done with the CHOP and CROP and SLICE and DICE  ... it is now 1 foot shorter and not as tall in the front .. the front fenders are stock length just sawed of on the bottom. I took 6" inches out the doors, 6" out the rear quarter ( 3" front of tire and 3" behind tire ).

Oh yea ... I chopped the top 2" .. but after looking at it I'm gonna chop off another inch at the A pillars.

Right now the body parts are in the sandblasting stage SO ... yep ... I'm at it again.

After I finished the 454 Rat Recon (and it's still raking in awards) I took a long break.

My Brother (on the passenger side) and I .... he helped on the build a little bit.
First place Rat Rod and top 50 in Hammond Cars For Kids Show this year.

That car is BADAZZ!!!  I can't wait to see the progress.

Will you be able to have the wheels that far foreword?

The mistake I made I made was installing my engine low to minimize tunnel cutting.  Now the car can not sit any lower.  I want to keep mine a daily driver though. I do a lot of 2 to 4 hour drives for my job.  I like showing up in a crazy car.

The high motor will look great.  What will have to be done to get 700hp out of a BBC?   I want to be around there at the crank, but will need 13 pounds of boost in my SBF to see that.  Still trying to read up on if I can run pump gas with over 10 pounds.

Will yours be a tagged street car or a drag race car?  or both?

Yes the wheels will be that far forward. The front fenders wheel wells will be modified.

To get 700 horses ... I'll have a pump gas 454 stroked to 496 with aluminum heads ... all forged rotating assembly .. 2 four tunnel ram because I like old school and a big ass solid roller cam.

Even though it will barely be streetable it will be tagged! Since I live in the woods I'll be able to drive it on the back roads. I don't plan on drag racing competition but I will run it down the track at Rat Rod events! ... Probably won't pass inspection for competition drag racing.

Ratoberfest at Beacon dragway is also like that. It's flag drags. Usually have a pin-up style girl flagging.     Here is two.

That is amazing.  What a cool event.  I can't believe how many great cars and trucks are there.  I have never even seen a rat rod in real life.  I thought I did once, but turns out the guy was not finished.  I live in a retirement town.  Sebring, FL.  Everything here is high end race cars or hot rods with $10k paint jobs,  Very old school.

I have my first road trip destination now......and a year to prep.  Only 650 miles away.  Thanks!!

I put mine in a picture file on my laptop then post them from there. They are easy to edit and reduce in size so they upload easy also

Re: 64 Falcon Rat Rod - You've got to have heart!
« Reply #23 on: August 28, 2017, 06:08:28 PM »
I've been pulling wrenches since I was old enough to hold one. Used to take all my toys apart to see how they work , that is, after I got bored at playing with them.

You need some ,"intelligence" to build stuff but what you really need the most is HEART! I've found that you can do ANYTHING you want if you have enough heart in it!

If you need to know something YouTube has the info. Learn how to research the web and get answers! Back in the day we had to depend on books and personal training (glad my big brother was a mechanic)!

Here's some of the things I've built in the last 7 years.
