Hello from WV
« on: January 31, 2014, 08:18:39 PM »
Hello, new to rat rods but not cars. I am a big Mopar guy but ended up trading for a 47 ford rat rod that needs so work. I also have a 66 Dodge Coronet and a 79 Little Red Express. How many other people are on here from WV?

Hello from Texas! Funny that you should mention that you own a 79 Little Red Express; I own part of one - that's what the engine and trans is out of that's going in the rat that I'm building:

Thank you everyone for the welcomes. Rubberhead, that's a good looking engine, looks like there is not much left of the original engine. What happened to the truck it came out of?

When I got the engine, it was a ball of sludge on the outside and inside; there was 3" of crap in the oil pan. I was going to use the original heads but they had already been reworked once before, so I couldn't go the route that I wanted so the result was new heads. All that I'm using from the original engine is the block and the crank and the only original part that I still have is the 50 pound intake. As far as the truck goes, When I got the engine, it was already out but I was told that the truck was a rust bucket - but not in a good way if you know what I mean, so I'm not sure what happened to it.

I, like you, am a Mopar guy at heart - I recently sold a 69 Road Runner that I had been working on (off and on) for 20+ years and is now a stunning car, so I think that we are somewhat cut from the same cloth. One thing that I want to do to my Model A to stick with the Mopar theme is to use a torsion bar front suspension hidden in the frame. Some of the guys here said that a traditional leaf spring would be much easier and would work just fine and they are right, but I want to stick with the Mopar theme and be different. Plus if I can pull it off, it will be super clean.

Sorry for the long rant, but it's rare to see another Mopar guy (literally - heh) around here, although there are a couple, but most run Chevy's and I certainly understand why but it's not for me and the rat rod tradition of "dare to be different"? I'm all for that.

Again, sorry for the rant...

Yea I like to look at most all cars but really only want to own a Mopar. Since 96 I have only owned Mopars until my wife found a Pathfinder she wanted and I traded for the Ford. The only bad thing about a Mopar is when you want to sell it, it's hard to sell. If it was a Ford or Chevy you would have people waiting in line for you to sell it. To bad we don't live closer so we could get together and help each other out.

I'm with you on that as I appreciate anything cool regardless of make and for anything performance/hot rod related, I've gone for Mopars since the early 80's - almost all 71 and below. I haven't found that they are hard to sell at all but I guess that it depends on where you are and the market there. Here the market isn't big for Mopars which makes them quite lucrative - think about it, how many 60's Camaros or Chevelles do you see on the road versus say Road Runners or Super Bees? It just depends, but I submit that there are FAR fewer Mopars out there to be had and therefore can be sold at a premium. Just my $0.02...

I agree when it comes to Roadrunners, Superbees, challengers and chargers they are easy to sell but I have never had the money to allow me to own one of those. Lol.

I have been in a Chrysler since I was brought from the hospital in a '55 Desoto Firedome Sportsman! We went to Dad and Granddads truck shop on the way home, so, I kinda was thrown in from the start! I Can't seem to Completely Kill one, so, why Change! Keep on running the Mopars and you Can't go Wrong!
