Gradual roof chop
« on: September 01, 2013, 07:56:57 AM »
I have an 80 Suburban that I am going to rat, and I want to do a gradual chop on the roof, from almost nothing in the back, to about 4" in the front.  How hard would this be to build?

It depends on the pillars. My 29 has a taper to the chop but it is very minimal. The whole thing is chopped but it is just slightly more in the front. Too much of a taper might look odd at the pillars. The pillars will have a rake to them because it will sit lower in the front and almost no chop in the rear. Essentially unless you can find a way of keeping the pillars at the same angles it might end up looking bad. Almost like it would have a slight angle to the rear of the car at the top of the pillar and then where it meets the lower pillar the pillar would be straight. I'm not the roof chopping expert though. There are better qualified in this group who should be able to answer your question better then I.

Well said nitromidgets....That's gonna be a tough chop, but it can be done.
Love building rat rods, driving mustangs, and building websites.
