Jeep YJ build
« on: April 19, 2014, 09:42:47 AM »

She don't look like much right now, but the mess in the garage will soon see a transformation.

It's a 1993 Jeep YJ that I purchased last month. Currently it has a TBI 5.7 with a T-5 and a Ford 8.8.

The last owner gutted the thing and even pulled the dash. There is an aluminum fuel cell installed between the rear wheels.

I picked up a narrowed 9" off eBay after noticing a hole in the 8.8 housing. I figured if I'm going I may as well go big...er smaller? Well thinner anyways :)

Next I grabbed some half doors

And I ordered my center section out of NC from Phil Cook. The guy has amazing prices!

The rest will be as follows:

LQ4 with stout bottom end build allowing for twin turbo installation. eBay crap no doubt running about 7-8 psi of boost.

6L80-90 built to take the power.

The Jeep has a Camaro subframe out of a 81 Z28 already in place so I'm going through that and adding rear disc brakes.

Hopefully I have a rear good rolling chassis including the back half done before fall.

The body interior etc will be total rat rod look with the chassis and safety related items top notch.

I look forward to sharing more as this progresses.

Jeff

I should as that's a strange Nodular case. Daytona pinion. 5:25 gears and a Eaton locker. With 35 Spline axles.

Should be a bullet proof diff for the street.

I'm having a ton of fun.

Just bought a wet sandblasting kit and can't wait to strip it all down.

Major shift in plans.

Isn't it funny how stuff just kind of comes together and leaves you wondering how that came right out if left field?

I was 100% sold on the 6 liter idea when , while browsing online classifieds, I find a 6.8l V-10 with under a 100k on it complete in a roll over and decide to call the guy for giggles.

25 mins later I've negotiated the whole truck to be dropped at my place, I can remove anything I want and when I'm done I call the guy who will come back and haul away whatever I don't need.

2wd truck so I have everything I need for the swap and the best part?

$550 for EVERYTHING!!

Happy dance :)

I start ripping that all out this weekend.

I was going to post up some photos of my frame progress but now the garage is in shambles.

I will keep posting as it unfolds.

holy crap, that is a great deal. Something like that truck would never sell for 550.00 bucks here, people still act like you can just drive it.

Best part is after a week of searching I finally found a company to simplify the wiring harness and help with retro fitting the VSS to my ford 9".

It's starting to come together.

Got a smoking deal on an oxy acetylene torch kit. My brother gave me a mig welder. I upgraded my sandblasting system and compressor.

No excuses left lol.

Now to cut and clean. And clean again and start some welding.
