1928 Ford Tudor Sedan project

Do we have enough build threads on RRN yet?

Today I picked up what I believe is a great deal on a '28 Ford tudor sedan.  It was someone's abandoned project and is virtually a complete car. I got the body (in two halves), boxed and zee'd frame, '48 Ford banjo rear with spring and wishbones, I-beam front axle with steering, brakes and suspension complete, Buick (Rover) aluminum 215 V8 engine with dual carbs and auto transmission, four 16" spoke wheels with NEW wide whites, a steering box, new lakes header kit, radiator shell, etc etc. Basically everything except seats and a steering wheel. It is all disassembled, but I rolled the tires up against the body to take some pics. No hurry on this build, as I already have my '34.

Great look'n package deal, don't know much about the early Buick v-8, but the twins make it look good.
might be a big swap meet in your area coming up you could fill up with parts.

You are to funny ! I would not go with the buggy spring just because you are so "fixed" into one position . Air bags always seem to be a problem waiting to happen . I think the best route is coil overs but they are expensive . What about a coil spring set up on truck bars , it will be easy to change ride height and inexpensive . Now where is the windex to clean my computer screen ?

Greg, I don't know what "truck bars" are - could you elaborate?

they are a single bar on each side of the rear end solidly mounted to the axle tube with a heim joint or bushing in the front for the pivot . just use a panhard bar . this what the 68-72 chevy trucks use that have coil springs . This is also the same basic set up that nascar cup cars use except they use spring jacks for adjustment and a track bar adjustment . Go find a 68-72 chevy truck and slide under it and you will see a very simple coil spring set up that is easy to build and works well . Hope this helps

Here's one that i built that gets rid of any banjo set up and air bags......basically it's a 3 link system with a panhard bar.

There's nothing that make you feel like an old-time hot rodder more than the time-honored practice of boxing a Model A frame. Here I am making a paper pattern, cutting out the steel, and tacking it in. I usually prefer to build frames myself because it's easier than cobbling an old one together, but this car came with a partially done original frame so I'm working with what I have.

when i build or modify a model a frame or any frame for that matter i run a string line down the center of my frame table ( you can center it up on the floor if you dont have a table), then i pull measurements from the center out to the frame and make it match both sides. i drop a plumb bob off the rails at the kick up and where ever else needed. once i get it all mocked up i square it from the center line of the radiator mount holes in the front x-member to the rear edge of the opposing frame rail ( diagonal corners) and square it by x ing it out, it does not have to be a square to be square.

I use the laser for other angle-finding tasks and thought it was such a genius idea for fine-tuning frame alignment that I just jumped on it without thinking of any other method.  Thanks Mike, it's a privilege to have our resident pro's sharing tricks of the trade with us amateurs!

Now, do you have any ideas how I can get the cowl section of this body re-connected to the main body when ALL the internal framework is gone and the top has been welded in?    :-\ :'(

you will have to make or buy some kind of sub rail for the cowl . it doesnt have to match the original. the last one i did that the sub rail was gone, i bent some 14 gauge sheet into a basic sub rail shape and went from there. if it has the fire wall in it, it will make things easier

One thing I always do when assembling the front and rear half to gether is align the doors to the main body and tack weld them shut in three places this will get your body together as close as possible and allow you to build the subrail parts with everything already aligned . I makes it a pain in the ass to get inside car and work , but I have found it to be a good solution for me .
