Seat Quuestion???????
« on: August 25, 2011, 04:36:50 PM »
I Needed some seats for my 38 Chevy truck project so looked around and found some out of a Honda car, however when I placed them in the cab I found they take up too much room.

I like the look of Bomber seats but not the price thinking about building my own set.
here is what I am thinking about, any comments?

I have seen a couple sets on ebay that had a side profile like yours in the picture , the sides were made from sheat aluminum and had covered plywood bottoms and backs . Looked relatively easy to build and inexpensive

I have seen them, however seems like they are all at a fixed back rest angle, I was thinking about have the the connection from the seat back and bottom pivot, then attache the seat back with a slide to the back wall and the seat bottom mount on a set of rails when when ever the seat was moved forwadt the back would recline some..What do you think?

Will have to make a run to the Local Pick-A-Part on the next half proce day and see what kind of hardware I can find.

I see your point , but you must consider that your are working within a chopped top cab , The seat will have one functional position , as low as possible and as far back as possible so that you will have as much leg room as possible  ;D

Good point.

The leg room issue is why I can't run the Hond seats.

When I get the time I was planning on building a mock up of the seat just to see what I can and can't do.

That design looks good, I have been working on seat problems for the past few days, and will take some pictures and post to the 27? Ford thread later.
PS you can have all the seats I picked up at various places, for free if you want. I can't use em because of the height problem.

Have you thought of using boat seats, I think they make some like you are looking for.

I have boat seats in the Deathtrap. New on ebay $40. They are
narrow enough for older hot rods with a high tunnel...Ofcourse
I covered them in burlap.. ;D

I never asked about the crop. I was a little light headed after the
two weeks it took me to burn up the contents....  ::)
