6 Volt/12 Volt car electricial
« on: March 20, 2014, 02:59:49 PM »
Ok, finally got my '53 Pontiac, its a unfinished project, the original straight 8 was swapped for a SBC. I need to wire the engine, that part I can do, pretty simple really, but I don't really want to rewire the whole car, is it possible to have the motor run 12 Volt and the rest of the car 6 Volt? I was thinking of using a resistor of some type to drop the voltage to the rest of the car, is that possible? if so any help would be appreciated.

Dad has converted many tractors to 12 volt with a resister he gets from NAPA(i think) it's a round deal that has 2 tabs for mounting and he changes the light bulbs. As far as your guages and dash i'm not sure but maybe if you isolate them it would be ok and if there mechanical forget my last statement  :P

Speedway sells "Runtz" voltage reducers. Would these work for you?
