About time to get started, 34 Ford PU
« on: October 21, 2013, 06:58:51 PM »
I am finally getting to get started on my 1934 Ford PU.   This will be my first build so it will be slow and painful.  I will have lots of questions and I am sure will get lots of advise, which I need.

This is what it looked like when I brought it home from Colorado, thanks for the tip Hotwheels.

Here is what it looked like temporarily put together:

After looking at eh frame for a while it just need to much work so I was on look for a frame, I was not about to attempt to build one my self at this point, so I found this one priced right and after some input from hotwheels and greybeard Ipicked it up

Thanks guys, but is mind blowing to me!!  basically building a truck from the ground up.

I have actually had a little head start and know the frame is a roller.  i even had a chance to set the cab one for inspiration.

I am LOVING those 5-spokes!  Will you use those or are they just shop rollers?  If not, I want them!

PS: One of the best things you can do to keep yourself motivated is to keep the unit LOOKING like a running vehicle as much as possible; ie keep the wheels/tires, body, etc all together. A pile of parts is much less inspiring than an actual car.

I wanted to use the ET mags but I could not get them to hold air, the fronts would not clear disk brakes and both of the rear were not true.

Just remember to take your time. Sometimes i'll just sit in a chair and stare at my rides, and take a piece of paper and start writting down a list of things to do. Then i start picking away at the list......you can always ad to the list. Without this list, you are kind of flying blind and may forget something.

Working for a living really gets in the way of working on my truck!

Finally had a chance to do a little more to the truck this weekend, got started on the frame work on the floor.

Also got a set of headers for $50 bucks at a swap meet this weekend as well, not really sure of the quality but for $50 I could not pass them up.

The headers look hot the floor is coming along nicely I'm a little worried about that driveshaft.

Also it wont hurt to have a note pad handy, never know what the brain cells will kick out. Or you will see something at a show somewhere.

Yeah, the driveshaft does indeed look questionable although I suspect that it's just in place to determine the trajectory for the real one; a really great idea actually... /sarcasm.

Well finally got work on the truck a little more I was mocking up the steering a got to the steering column and found out the when you buy 3/4" pillow block bearing they may not have a 3/4" bore.....ugh. so I will have to wait to finish until I find some 3/4" bore pillow block bearings.

So I moved on to the bed, I have never been more nervous in my life than when I started cutting on the beautiful bed that greybeard made for me. After measuring 5 or 6 times I took the plunge and started cutting and all is well.

After looking at it I think the front is sitting to high.

Hmm, I always buy 3/4" pillow block bearings and they have a 3/4" bore.  I just sold some at the September swap meet   :'(

How will you lower the front?  If you show us some detailed pics I'm sure we can come up with numerous suggestions that will only cost you several thousand dollars and a couple of months work   ;D

Good job on the box. You are really racing along on this!
