new shop machine for forming sheet metal
« on: November 11, 2011, 05:17:16 PM »
picked this up today, i have been looking for a pullmax, or other reciprocating machine for a while. luck was on my side yesterday, had to drop off a tail gate skin i louvered to a customer, he had this sitting in his shop. told him i had been looking for one, and he offered to sell it to me cheap! came with some tooling, phase converter, and the head was recently rebuilt.

made some dies to make 30-31 door body lines, they came out pretty much perfect.

the dies, i made

making some panels

end result

i am working on uploading a video, hope it will be up soon.

here are some pics of the first rough draft of a model a door skin. it is a little wavy. mainly that was because i was alone at the shop when i was doing it, so i was having problems supporting it. not bad for the first one.

grumpy, the tables are a good idea, but then i will have tables in the way lol. it is easier to just have on of my buddies to help hold it. there is pretty much always someone hanging out around the shop that i can convince to lend a hand.

i do have a table for my bead roller, but it is mostly in the way, so i leave it leaned up against the wall lol

You really know your machines. How much force does it take to push (shove) that metal thru there? What gauge metal are you using? How much shrinkage do you get when its complete? Sorry for all the question, I guess it comes from being a machinist for way too many years..

have fun with it!
