URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT

Bill to Require Front and Rear License Plates Introduced in Michigan

Legislation (S.B. 654) has been introduced in Michigan to require the issuance of two license plates for motor vehicles.  The state currently only requires one.  Under the legislation, the plates would be attached to the front and rear of the vehicle.   The bill will be considered by the Michigan Senate Transportation Committee.

We Urge You to Contact Members of the Senate Transportation Committee (Contact Info Below) Immediately to Request Opposition to S.B. 654
• S.B. 654 would increase costs, waste resources and move Michigan away from the growing trend of states that are considering legislation enabling a single plate requirement.

• S.B. 654 fails to protect the aesthetic contours of collector cars and creates the additional burden on vehicle owners of having to create mounting holes on some fabricated and original bumpers.

DON’T DELAY!  Please contact members of the Senate Transportation Committee immediately by phone or e-mail to request their opposition to S.B. 654.

Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at stevem@sema.org.  Also, please forward this Alert to your fellow car enthusiasts.  Urge them to join the SAN and help defend the hobby! Thank you for your assistance.

We just tried getting the one plate law passed here in wyoming, they shot it down because the police say they need it to see if a car is legal.
