Looking at a truck right now. The one thing I don't like Is for a guy my size it's a 1 seater; 1.5 tops. I want to be able to cruise with my two boys. I've heard of guys stretching and shortening, but has anybody tried widening?

You can widen it, it is almost like chopping the top. You have to tack in plenty of support inside the cab, be sure when you do this, you are supporting the 2 sides. With that done, you can cut the cab down the middle, your support pieces on the passenger side and in the driverside should hold the cab and you can now add new metal.......

So instead of bracing horizontally I'd brace vertically?

That will be a little tougher. You would have to find a good spot behind the door line. Weld in supports in that section, then weld in supports on the front section inside the cab. Then cut the cab, move the section back, install and weld in new metal. May not be worth the hassle.

What I was think was brace it for the cut. After the cut brace that piece before removing first set of braces. Then do the work for the stretch.

That would work richie. Just time and patience......sounds like you have really thought this through....
