building some bomber seats
« on: July 11, 2012, 05:46:00 PM »
so i am building a set of bomber seats for a customer . i figured i would document the building of them and make a thread . these are pretty much a plain jane, basic set style i make ( they can get pretty fancy with custom orders) these are made from 16 gauge aluminum, will update the thread as i progress.

this is what we are making

seat back cut out

back braces cut, bead rolled and some drilling

side brace, where the seat belt hole is

seat bottom cut out

brace that attaches to the seat back and seat bottom, holes still need dimpled

all the pieces cut, drilled and bead rolled, all the large holes still need dimpled, and the seat belt holes will be cut out later

Very time consuming , I have wanted to try my luck at building some also . I even went so far as to buy all the stuff for the hammered rivets in aluminum and brass . I guess that I will wait and learn from the sheetmetal master .  ;D  Please document all that is involved , every step of the way .

got the first seat of the set finished up minus going over it with a scotch brite to give it a brushed aluminum look. also started the second seat of the pair today.

seat belt holes and added and extra hole on the side

added the side brace on the inside

and the finished product ( seat 1 of the pair)

second seat of the pair starting to go together

In my opinion for what it is worth. There are car builders some good, some maybe not so much, and then there are artist , Cornfeild Customs is an Artist . My hat is off to you, I read all of your posts and believe you are an asset to this site. Thanks for sharing with us.

They look real good. I am thinking on replacing my forklift seats.  Scared to ask what these sold for?....
