I was under the '56 Ford truck that I'm putting a C4 Corvette front end under.  That is a lot like what I'm seeing.  The previous shop that had this truck stuck an old GM power assist under the truck, the one with the long piston that goes across the steering and has the valve assembly attached to the pitman arm.  It is really poorly thought out and the result is FUBAR!!

Looking past the mess, this unit has the drag link behind the axle, like yours. he pitman link runs past the axle and attaches to similar arm coming off of the left spindle that also is the left side attachment point for the drag link.  The springs sit on top of the axle too.

I am once again off my feet on doctor's orders.  More trouble with the left foot.  Not as serious as the previous episode, but enough to keep me sitting or laying down for a few weeks.  I can ride crutches a little or use my knee scooter, but getting up and down from and to the floor is a problem.  I think I promised you some pics and I will try to get those for you tomorrow.

All of that said, I think you have an early to middle fifties Ford unit.

1966 f100 ratrod (sold)
1938 Chevy (in process)

We pulled the '56 front end yesterday.  I've posted some photos for you.  The biggest difference I see is that the one you have doesn't have the little dip in the center of the main beam that mine does.

Ignore the sorry power assist installation!!  I don't know who did it, but it was sloppy and dangerous! When turning left, the valve assembly hit the left front tire before one turn of the steering wheel!!

The brakes were on the truck when it arrived.  It uses GM style calipers, pads, and rotors, but the hubs are aluminum and are drilled for 5X5 1/2" wheels.  Probably Speedway.
