Well another day closer to getting her back on the road. Lets see what these knee's will let me do today?

Fresh paint makes it stand out.

A little update. The new motor went in just fine. But, BUTTTT. It would not run. And it was tight. Side note: I have disability's that prevent me from doing just the little things, like changing my own oil. Back to the story. Had her at  guy's house ( referenced) and he did somethings that was to help me get her running. Didn't work out. He kept telling that it was an internal problem and that I would need to pull it and take the motor back to the builder and I kept referring that the starter could be bad, no it was good. Well pulled the 64 from there to a guy that I know well and trust and at the time was unable to do anything with the car because he was backed up. Got the car over to him on Friday, he calls me this morning (Sunday) to come and get her and that she is running. Short list was :
1) Bad starter.
2) timing chain to tight, changed.
3) weak battery.
4) had a couple of bolts missing from transmission and some lose, fixed!
5) Oil pan drain plug lose, Royal Purple oil not cheap.
6) Oil pan leaks, but is tight. Only issue that I will have to get builder to resolve.

So the moral of the story is get a 2nd opinion. And enjoy what your body allows you to do with your car. I know that I miss it. At least I can still take pictures.

Combination problems - always hard to diagnose. But how does a timing chain get too tight?

Thanks for the advice on enjoying yourself now.

Well i am glad it's back on the road engine wise. Sounds like allot of the little things ended up biting that motor in the butt.

This is becoming my NIGHTMARE! Engine builder will fix any problems. But getting said engine down to him is the challenge. Having to pay someone to do the pull and install. And I am not paying. The oil leak I might live with ??? But setting her to run smooth, that is the challenge. She does run strong, once that I get her to start. But from 35 to 55 not so smooth.

Damn.  Check what you can without pulling engine: carb adjustment, distributor timing, valve adjustment, vacuum leaks.  Good luck, keep us posted.

Driving to a friends house Friday morning. I know that the Dist. needs to be reset. A couple of little issues that between the 2 of us we should be able to resolve. As for the oil leak, it does not look tat bad. I think that maybe 75 miles on this new motor and still full. So my question is this ? Is it normal for a fresh motor to leak a drop or two before the oil pan gasket sets ? I got down on the floor, oh and paid for that trick (fake knees) and took a look at the pan. At the front I could see a small drop. And on the steering andcross member it was wet, but?? Still the dip stick reads full.

Maybe a simple re-torque of the pan and timing cover will stop the leak!

BTW, have you tasted the leak - are you sure it's engine oil?

Checking to make sure that all bolts are tight is on the list. But at the time that I was on the floor a taste test was not on my mind. After lunch I will go out and take a sample.

Have not tried the oil taste test yet. But did apply a little tab and got my duck tails slicked back... :P

I wonder what Royal Purple is supposed to taste like ?

Ha ha, now you are just making fun of me   :P

I just meant to dip your finger in the stain and taste it to make sure it's not actually antifreeze. It's hard to tell from a drop on the engine or a stain on the floor; antifreeze is slick as oil, but the taste test will tell you for sure.

No it is oil. And I did put some on the tip of my finger. In fact at the front of the block where the oil pan is there was a tiny drop. And that is what I checked.

And I was just yanking your chain. But it is all good. In fact that is what I checked first and that was to make sure that it was oil and not AF. So with this nightmare I am not putting much faith in the "mechanic". By the time that this is all said and done my knee's are going to dis-own me.
