Time For A Change
« on: November 23, 2012, 08:09:41 AM »
As I get a little older and started a family, I have decided that maybe I need something with a back seat for my son.

So I have made up my mind that I am going to trade my 76 j20 and my sportster some kind of back seat having, giant old car.

I guess I have to grow up a little ( but not by much).

i had a friend text me that he just ended up with a 61 caddy. 54k on the clock (it's gotta be 154 from the looks of it.)

I think it has a 390 in it. Good or bad? I am not to savy on the caddy mills.

Im all for "Big". And more doors are better than 2. 61 Caddie, how much $?, and has your friend checked it out? Could be a blast.

Well, it runs and drives, the last time it had plates was 95. All the chrome and trim is bagged in the trunk.

The only current drawback is the faded, peeling pink paint.

I am going to go see it on Tuesday. I will post some pics

faded pink, maybe one that Elvis gave away back in the day. OR early day "Mary Kay", that will make the wife happy.

Mammograms! That's a great idea, now I have a plan.

Depending on the condition of the motor, I might be "that guy" and drop a SBC in it. Money is pretty tight and I need dependability instead of style.  The first time I have really thought about that.

You wanna build it dependable no matter what. Allot of these builders with all the fancy motors, have thousands of dollars in their builds. I wouldn't dump that kind of money into a rat, just build it so it looks kewl and so it's dependable.

Kool. And if it is to be a family hauler then ya DEPENDABLE and SAFE. Have you looked onto rebuilding the motor that is in it?

You did say the car is pink. Have pin stripper "I love boobies"

Yes, the 390 is not the cheapest thing to rebuild. I have also had a few experiences with the hydromatic tranny that have not been good. I am going to check it out today

I have a friend who runs a tranny shop, he has a SBC/ 700 R4 combo that was built for a customers hot rod. The customer bailed and now it is sitting. I am leaning that way since I plan to drive the hell out of it.

Yes, purity be damned. I just want to drive a fun car.

We have a chance for layoffs at work, the last thing I want to do is do an expensive rebuild that I may have to mess with later.

Maybe in a few years I will shoehorn a 500 in it. Or not.
