th350 vs powerglide
« on: June 24, 2012, 02:52:13 PM »
hey guys, I'm in the very beginning stages of building a new motor for the ride. Going to build a high rpm 383 stroker (not crazy high just 7000 rpm max) we have started looking at parts for the motor and have a good bit of it priced out and we are aiming for it to push about mid 500 hp, now this car is my daily and i'm going to keep it that way but i want to be able to take it to the track and run it occasionally as well.

My real question is should i use a TH350 trans or a powerglide? the car currently has a powerglide in it and I love it but I'm a little worried that when the new motor goes in and the gearing in the rear gets changed out (probably going to use a 4.10) the powerglide wont have enough gears to be able to drive it daily (usually only drive about 15 miles a day during the week and a good bit of it is highway)

Just looking for some suggestions or tips on the subject alot of the guys I'm around out here are partial to the powerglide so I'm getting biased answers I love the powerglide myself and have never had a TH350 appreciate any help I can get

Go with a 700r4 and drop back to a 3.73 the 700 has a lower 1 st gear than the others and will have better top end
That's not dust in your eyes ...... it's RUST !!!

The glide is excellent for raceing. The 350H a step up. But you wont go wrong with the 700R4. A few years back I pulled the 2speed glidw and put in the 700R4. Been very happy with the performance. And real good to cruize at 70/75 and the tach is sitting at about 1700 r's and the motor is purring. With the glide I would watch the gas gaige go south and the motor pushing 2500 to 2900R's. And your motor will thank you.

I have to agree with the 700r suggestion. The 700 got a bad rap because the early ones had aluminum drums in them. Just get a later one or upgrade the drums. You will love it. But if I had to choose between the powerglide and th350 I would definatly go with the th350.
