help. advise needed
« on: March 07, 2014, 06:38:00 AM »
i have never ran into this before. car comes in misfire only on cyl. 1. very low compression. other 3 double what it has. leak down test showed 60% leaking onto cyl 2. send head out comes back same misfire compression came up a little but basically all the same. leak down test is perfect 0-3%.

1st question, why only 1 head sent out for service ? And I would guess that the others checked out ok ? The engine block is clean ? Checked the distributor, no carbon build up on the drive gear ?  When you had the head off did you check the rings ?

I'm confused already, one cylinder misfires, accurate compression test shows all cylinders about the same?
If so, start with the plug and head to the wire next, then dust, ext.
If not, go the other direction.

so now that's fixed. i should be more specific it's a Chrysler 2.4 dohc. spark is good. new wires coil plugs (from owner) cylinder 1 75psi 2-4 is 135psi. smooths out off idle. head was leaking from cylinder 1 into 2. head was .030" out. milled perfect. cylinder leak down is perfect now. so no leak in cylinder in my experience is good rings and valve train. but if all is well where is the compression going

alright i finally looked into my leak down tester as at fault. checked everything out and found I'm an idiot. i was using my compression hose on the leak down. the check valve is built into the hose. so to inform the block must be at fault the leak down is the original 60% into cylinder 2

So you got it figured out then? Only places compression can go is past rings or valves........
