Oregon is exciting in winter

Interstate 84, 50+ vehicles involved.  Just think: if there were more global warming this never would have happened!

Snow was not the problem there, fog was, road was good with a slight fog then they went over a rise and caught a fog bank that was trapped on the ground and freezing.  Heavy black ice and fog on a downhill run caused a bad bad. It's moisture trapped on the cold pavement, not how much snow was around.

Yes, I have driven the Columbia Gorge in a semi, everything seemed normal until I got out to take a leak and fell on my rear. I had no idea that it was icy while I was driving at 60 mph. The air is so moist that it freezes on the pavement. Snow has relatively good traction in comparison.

Wreck's were Westbound just East of Baker city, just imagine if it happened on Deadman's hill dropping down to Pendleton.
