193? Chevy rat rod pickup AKA patches
« on: October 13, 2017, 07:45:31 PM »
I bought a 38 chevy pickup cab from a guy for 200 bucks....it has no title and I looked into getting one but it will end up with a title from elsewhere...so far I have a 283 sbc for the engine and a 14 bolt dually rear end. Just bought my frame material 2x3 3/16 tubing so will be starting that soon. In the mean time I have suicide mounted the passenger door and started a little work stiffening up the cab. The idea is to leave the loose rotted out places as is with no new metal. It will be a crude ride with no glass besides windshield and only bare necessities. Safety first then reliability then looks and somewhere down at the bottom is practicality and comfort. Here are some pictures of where I am now.

Got both doors mounted and latches put in. The latches keep my door about 1/4" from where it needs to be when shut so I may do something with that but it will stay for now, just don't think I will like the rattle. Picked up a Chevrolet Mercury grille for it that has a good look to it.....started putting some 16 ga under the door skins to stiffen them up so they don't flop in the wind. Work has been crazy so progress is slow I will cut my frame material as soon as I can and also have a front axle now to work with. I am pretty sure I am going to leaf spring the rear with trailer springs.

Yea the grille was a nice find and condition fits my truck perfect.....i would have never thought a Chevrolet Mercury was a real model until the guy posted up some info on it. Still everyone I tell that to looks at me like I don't know what I'm talking about (which at times is true) but apparently Chevrolet used the term Mercury about 6 years before Ford (according to info I read. Kind of a neat piece and not bad for 250 shipped.
