Skid rollers
« on: June 16, 2012, 12:28:20 AM »
I fabbed up some skid rollers to weld under my frame to keep the oil pan from dragging on driveway humps. These were inspired by RV travel trailer skid rollers, but smaller.  At bottom is a photo of them, plus a video of a dropped Model A demonstrating how skid rollers handle a driveway. Look closely - from the front and the side you can see what I'm pretty sure are skid rollers under the frame:

That's thinking ahead.
Hard work without talent is a shame, talent without hard work is a tragedy.

I promised a photo when I installed my skid rollers, so here's a couple.

Changed plans: decided to make double rollers instead of singles to provide greater oil pan protection. I welded them to the bottom of the Scrap Rod's frame where they are barely visible.  Cold and rain is keeping me from performing a test drive today ("Where's my global warming, dude?") but I'm hoping they save my poor tortured oil pan from further impacts (two inches clearance from pan to pavement!).

The wheels are 1 1/2": they look kinda like roller skates    :P
