Hey Guys,
I've been accumulating parts for my new project for a while now and have most of what I need. I picked up a '55 ford cab with a clean title, got a straight front axle from another '55 ford truck, got a posi rear end from a Jeep Cherokee. steering rack from a mustang II, dual master cylinder brake system from a circle track car, old hurst floor shifter (automatic). pretty much the only thing I need now is the tranny.
I want something long and low, it will have "floating" fenders on each wheel.
the cool factor will be that I'm planning on using 2 305's end to end tied together at the crank.
my first question of many is this, do you guys think a 2x4 steel boxed frame will be strong enough to support the two V-8's, the tranny and the cab? or should I go with something stronger like a ladder style chassis like the modern dragsters use?

I would think the 2x4 steel (not wood, they don't hold up) would be strong enough for just sitting, but would flex way too much under power, go with the ladder system and beef it up.

another idea, a real heavy channel, like 3x8 or so may do the trick, think 1 Ton, 1 1/2 ton truck.
