Thanks she is a 1.5ton '42 GMC military winch truck.  Thinking about a Ranger 2wd Frame and front end with a 70's ford 9" that I already have and a 12v Cummins for the power. Should be a fun build.  Will start a build page when it is torn down.

Thanks everyone!  Finally get to haul it to shop so I can strip it down later this week (after the snow stops) and get the cab and cowl in my garage to see true condition of floor and cab.  Going to preserve patina as well.  then start the layout of the build

Sounds like a plan! I bought a white board to list needs and finished projects. Helps keep me focused on the big things and not get side tracked.

Thanks  Finally have front cowl, radiator and support, grill all off the truck and cab is cut loose just need to get tractor in to pull up over all shifters and hand brake.  Then time to patch the 3 holes and figure out how to preserve patina without gloss.  need to pull winch and headache rack.

A lot of Gas engine guys use Linseed oil. After it dries it's almost like clear and it perserves the patina

I used semi-gloss clear on the rusty places on Lockjaw.  The Rustoleum brand has worked well!!

Thank you both for these ideas.  Think I will do some test runs and see what I like.  Hopefully the snow stays away this weekend so I can get the cab home

Most of the parts are in the garage now.  Time to do some body massage, get the doors to close correctly and patch some holes.  Then find the pieces to set this on and make some smoke!  :P

Rain, snow and hail have been a big part along with work travel.  The biggest step was lining up the tractor to do the 3ft lift over all the levers that were in the cab. and then getting it into and back out of the truck.  And yes I hauled it with the lid up
