new guy in honolulu hawaii--55 2dr plymouth
« on: September 22, 2017, 05:08:15 PM »
well, how do i start? recently, i "won the lottery".
brother mike rolled in from kauai and bought not only our
v8 astre (vega) but also the chopper for $11K.

so....after paying a bunch of medical bills
(our younger son has leukemia, and now that obamacare
has shifted to phase 3 his meds went from $75/week to $200/week.
thanks, obunghole. you pr*ck !) we had a few thousand left .

enter- "the cougar". my new 62 year old mistress. she is
(aside from tires and a master cylinder) ALL ORIGINAL.
of course that wont stay that way for long...

we got her from the original owners son for $3250.00 with
a clean hawaii title. its a 1955 2dr hardtop belvedere coupe.
has the 1st year V8 and powerflite 2spd auto with the weird
shifter on the dash.. looks like a 8-3/4 rear but im not sure.
oh well, i got a 9" rear axle from a 57 tbird hiding in the garage
 somewhere if need be....

plans are to stuff her with a NASTY 550+hp 454, a 4spd muncie, a
straight axle and a foot of lift on the front end, 15x4 ansen fronts
(got em in the closet) and widened stock rears with
pie-crust 30x11.50 repops.

i will sand the pimples off the chrome trim then paint said chrome
trim  clear if its good enough or argent silver if its still gnarly,
hose the dirt off the rest of her, wipe the
interior down with a wet rag, and hit the streets. thats right, we
aint doing NOTHING body/paint wise except the trim.

stay tuned. it might take longer than i want, but its gonna happen.
we just got here home last saturday morning.......

Welcome from Pennsylvania, very cool ride. I was unfortunate to be on obama"care?" for about a year so I know the frustration $$$. Hopefully the medication is helping your son.

Pictures take some extra time to post. Go through the process and then just sit back for a minute or two.  My first couple of trys with more than a couple of photos failed because I didn't know to wait.

RIIIIIIIIIIGHTIOUS, a place in upcounty haiku, maui,
called hermans auto salvage (or calasas auto) had a
54 international R110, the dude sold me the complete
front axle end to end with steering linkage and springs
for $150...and hes going to remove it !

definately taking a 24pack of beer for him when i pick it up.
old school way was like this, take a straight front off an old
pickup or econoline/dodge van and stuff into you "whatever"
to convert to a gasser. yes its more work, but the kit from
speedway is $800+tax/shipping....

and im normally so broke i cant even pay ATTENTION.

so ghetto old school it is. i kinda like that anyway.....

ok, lemme try to post a few pics again...

*nope, still being weird. oh well...*

the white vette is my daily driver with 461",
its crazy but reliable. isky 292/.595/108 in that one.

silver vette is wifes, we are finishing it up now.
has a hot 355 with a 280/.480/110 comp cams,
2.02 summit heads, 10-1 forged flat tops, etc...

can you tell what her favorite color is? thats our boys
putting the finishing touches on the 355 just before
 we swung it in...

and the "polish tunnelram" is slated to go on the new 468"
thats going into the 55 plymouth with the 4spd muncie.
i already have a new lunati voodoo#4 (its a split 276/284
duration, .554/.572 lift, 110LC ) but i MIGHT just buy another
isky 292/.595/108, i REALLY like that one in my white vette...

D*MMIT..............

in the ever present '2 steps forward/3 steps back'
whirlwind that seems to run my life (and many of yours
too, im sure !) i just put a stop payment against a
charge for $325 from "moores auto salvage" in rapid
city south dakota.

'marc' assured me he had all the pieces to convert our
55 belvedere from auto to manual trans, pedals and
linkages and such.

he had no problem charging me on the spot for said pieces,
the full $325 amount. (OUCH...) but now, 22 days later...

hes ducking calls. wont return messages. wont answer emails.
he claimed the parts would ship the following monday. then wednesday.
then friday. then oops it didnt go out friday, monday. oh sorry monday
was a holiday, ill send em out tomorrow and call or email you with
a tracking number.....

then he went off the radar completely. left 8+messages on machine over
the last week, no returned calls. anytime i call they no answer. sent
several emails asking what was up, no reply. sent my number (you know, to
leave a callback number press 5 now...) at least a dozen times, nothing. NOTHING.

again, it didnt take 22 seconds to charge me for these parts, so why
after 22 days am i sitting here with my thumb in my nose with NO PARTS,
no callbacks, no response, no apologies, NOTHING.

im certain the visa company
will get the money back, what pisses me off is the 22 days i fricken
WASTED waiting for stuff that he either dont have or never intended
to sell me. why do people play stupid games like that?

and why, if theres a legit reason, would he be avoiding me? i mean,
if something LEGIT was the problem why wouldnt he just say hey man, sorry,
had XXXXXXXXXXX happen so its gonna be another day or two.....?

frick, of all my pet peeves perhaps #1 is- "DONT LEAVE ME HANGING".

anyway, let this be a lesson--dont do business with moores auto salvage in SD.

now i gotta find another pedal set IF one exists, or rig up something else.
what a F*CKER.

nah, even if he was right down the street, i aint going to jail
over $325, know what i mean? just not worth it. although i
DO agree he needs a 'reality check' like a nice hard bitch-slap
to the face.

i just dont wanna go to jail, for it, hah hah....

ow, ow, ow , OW!!!!

has anyone priced a hurst shifter lately? apparently they are now
made from solid gold or some similar unobtainium type material.

i looked at the 'correct' 55-57 shifter with the bent handle to clear
bench seat, thinking thats the closest thing to a 55 belvedere.
but its $400 !!! now add in the install kit with brackets, levers, rods,
etcc for another $250 and with tax/shipping to hawaii its coming in
d*mn close to a thousand dollars !

for a freaking SHIFTER ?!?!?!!!!!! ouch. i am NOT happy.

(and for the smart@sses out there, im not grumpy, dopey,
sneezy, sleepy, bashfull, or doc either. hah! beat ya to it....)

WELL!!  You fer DAMNED sure ain't Snow White!!! :P :P

I know it's a stretch, but I've found my last two shifters on EVIL-Bay!!  I had to buy a link for one of them from Hurst, but they worked !!!

One of the hardest things to get a grasp of was the patience thing!!  I've learned to do the things I can while I SEARCH for the stuff I want.
