Getting Ready...
« on: April 08, 2012, 09:59:23 AM »
Had a really productive day at the lockup yesterday, took the pan off the trans and replaced the cork gasket,a real pain in the ass to do because when the frame was made to take a different engine/trans combo so the crossmembers are directly underneath the box,had to disconnect the propshaft and rear mount and jack the trans up as high as it could go,i managed to feed the pan out between the members whilst dipping my hair in the rapidly growing pool of trans fluid on the floor!!
job done now and drove the shit out of it on the yard so its now caked in mud..great fun tho, just got to sort out the charging and then its back out on the blacktop..Hell Yeah!!

Feel good about that!  My buddy and I changed my entire transmission.  Oh, and in order to get it out all we had to do is pull off the front clip and bumper (1951 F1 pickup), floor pan out, shifter off, all the hoses, belts and wires, driveshaft, entire exhaust system and the carb...pull the engine and trans together and then after changing to a better trans reversing the whole thing.  Grrrr!!  Drove it Saturday and today, and it ran great.

Also changed the cherry bombs to a pair of "quieter" mufflers. (chambered).  That was a success, because the new mufflers are just as loud.  Maybe a bare steel floor isn't the noise dampening tool I'd hoped.
