Car lift is finally fixed
« on: February 20, 2014, 06:58:22 PM »
Well it was allot of work, but I finally have my car lift back in working order. I was letting others use my lift and they started bounce the vehicles they put on the lift and cracked a couple spots in my 4,000# concrete floor. After some thinking, I welded on some extensions, drilled in some holes and attached the extensions to my floor. Lift is allot tighter then it was in the past. Damn excited to have it back. No more letting others use my lift, period.

I have 14' ceilings in my shop. I planned ahead when i had the shop built. They were going for 12', but i told them no. I think if you look at the picture, the lift would have fit with 12' ceilings.

When they had a car on the lift, i don't have a stand to stop the car/truck from bouncing on the lift when trying to pull a tranny or what have ya. So as the vehicles bounced the lift would start rocking and cracked the floor. With the repairs i just made and my plans on buying so stands. This shouldn't happen again. fingers crossed.

Have you considered adding steel plates as giant gussets to tie the horizontal and vertical spans together? I would think that adding something along those lines would add considerable strength to further reduce sway.

I have thought about it and will probably add some gussets. The water pump just failed in my one ton, so now i may end up spending the last of my days off replacing. Wanted some shop time finally, but not like this, lol.....
