Didn't get the motor in as planned.Oh well.I'm going to hopefully channel the cab tonight.Thinking 5 and a half inches. After that, its chop top time.I'll start with 3 inches and see how it looks.Pics soon.

A 3 to 4 inch chop should be perfect. I usually do 4" chops, anything more and you risk bashing your head on the roof

Well.Today I fired up the motor. Not so good noises coming from that thing.Sounds like a rod knock. Its just a mock up motor luckily. Then I got the yellow beast out and after a lot of tinkering,It backfired out the exhaust so loud it made me dizzy.Ran rough after that.Checked the plugs and there covered in oil.Rings possibly seized or bad valve seals. Not looking to spend a ton of money on this build so I'm rethinking my power plant options.

sounds like distributer and timing, check plug wires, firing order stuff. check firing order first, then go from there, may not be bad.
Or, just sit down, have a beer, and call the dealer and ask if it's under warranty.

Fuel pump was full of rust and the firing order was off. Searched the casting numbers on the web .Turns out the 230 6 cylinder is from a 1943-45 Dodge WC62-3 WWII truck. Kinda cool history. Needs a carb rebuild but not too bad for sitting over 15 years..
