New power plant for Lockjaw
« on: September 14, 2016, 11:10:51 AM »
I'm collecting up parts for a new engine for Lockjaw. I have a new fresh built head with a heavily modified valve train and a borderline race porting job with all of the bells and whistles.  I bought a 181 ci. crankshaft for it that we will offset grind to make a longer stroke. A new acquaintance of mine has committed to making a roller cam blank that can be ground for a hydraulic roller lifter set-up.  i have an outlet for a set of H-beam, 6" rods and some .030 over forged flat top turbo pistons as well as some of the other small items needed to complete the build.

Money permitting, I'll pull the block out of the li'l feller after christmas and have it machined for all of these new parts and in the spring I'll have a fresh engine with almost twice the power and it won't look much different than it does now.

Stay tuned.  i'll do photos and commentary as I go!!

I've got a big block Chevy engine sitting in the shop that Jeff73 and I are partners on. He's said three or four times that we should stick it off in Lockjaw, but I WANT the 4banger.

This will be another exercise in "What can I do with this stuff?"

When the Boog bug started it had a stock Ranger 4 cylinder with all the electronics But I NEEDED more power! Had the stock motor not been on the chip at about 80 mph I probably would have kept it as it was good on gas and reliable

I'm with Ya on the 4 cyl!  My'23 Ford touring car has a Volvo 4, twin side drafts and an auto o/d for its' drivetrain!  :o :o
I put it in there for reliability and mileage, and the auto is case Momma has to drive it!  ;D ;D
It looks Kinda Sweet!  ;D

Man you talk about throwback. It is the 70's and gas crunch time again

Back when horsepower was cheap to come by, and 4 and 6 cyl were the rage. On the cover of Street Rodder was how too on converting and making more power.

Make me feel like I am in my 20's again

I've never really gotten over the gas crunch!!  With the recent pipeline damage down here, folks are panicking and the stations are sometimes sold out!!  The suppliers and retailers are really gouging the public!!  My big green 3500 Chevy is sitting in the driveway right now 'cause I got the new Enclave that gets mid 20s and Lockjaw that gets about the same!!

We're looking at around 175 cubic inches and likely 200+ HP if the roller cam gets done. It won't suffer too much in the gas mileage department because it'll be more efficient. I MAY even be able to go back to my 3.00:1 gear!!

Sounds like the four wins .

Never was any doubt!!  The mental exercise involved is what makes this an ongoing project!!  Believe me!!!   I LOVE big power, but any big dummy like me can just flop in a bigger Chevy engine.  Hell !! I've even got headers and a radiator to make it work with a big or little V8 and anything else I might need!!

TOO EASY!!!    :P 8) 8)
