« on: November 12, 2012, 06:38:20 PM »
Iam trying to find some headlights for my 34 Ford truck and man all the vintage ones are extremely high.

Any one have any ideas or how to's to make some cheaper headlights that may appear similar to the old ones ?

Headlights are as important to the look as the " right " wheels and tires are , so don't scrimp . You can look around and the correct ones will come up at the right price , it just may take a few days . I love the old bucket lights and you can always figure a way to put a new sealed beam set-up in one . what i'm trying to say is don't loose faith , I have bought several sets for under a  $100.00

You're falling into the street rodder trap of seeking rare vintage parts.  Remember the roots of rat rodding: utilizing whatever is cheap and available - not exotic, expensive or trendy.

I sold a pair of original 34 pickup headlights on Ebay for $250 to someone who had to have "just the right look" (that rube will have $40,000 in his project before he knows it, and the dummy will still think it's a "rat rod").  Then I went to a swap meet and bought a used pair of dented-up Dietz for $4.00.

Hell, I'd fabricate headlights out of coffee cans rather than pay today's prices - and they'd be super cool because they'd be the only ones out there.

I like the 4 buck headlights.  My ride wont have 250.00 headlights on it, simply cause I cant afford them :)

I bought my headlight buckets from speedway motors. I just bought the cheap 7" buckets they had. I looked around for old rusty buckets, but couldn't really find much around here.
Love building rat rods, driving mustangs, and building websites.

Greybeard nailed that headlights are so important. I bought myself some fender headlights gonna make them work on the sedan one way or another. Mine are in good shape and complete think I gave around $145 on eBay. Whats been the killer for me is finding the right taillight.

I dont think those would look right on a fenderless truck. JMO. I also dont have much vision for that kind of stuff.

Iam going with hot wheels Idea and getting some from speedway :) Thanks though !
