Topic: 2x3 Frame?

Hey guys, I'm getting ideas rounded up for a roadster build, Im planning on running an old 331 hemi, As far as the frame, what would be a good thickness on the tubing I need? I went to the local steel shop today and looked at the .120 wall thickness but looks a little thin, any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated thanks.

If it was my frame i would use 2 x 3 x 3/16 wall.......It's a little bit more expensive, but you will have no problem mounting brakelines, and sheet metal screws to the tubing....The thinnest i would go would be 2 x 3 x 1/8 wall.

I have built my frames with 2x4 .125 wall and never had problems , maybe because of the 2x4 instead of 2x3

2x4 would actually be a great upgrade.........I may look at that for my 26 dodge.

I have never compared the weight difference between 2x3x3/16 and 2x4x1/8 , I think there might be less flex in the 2x4 but I never did get that structural engineering degree

The smoke from the 2x4's did burn my eyes last time , now that you mentioned it

I used 2x3 x 3/16 and it has held up very well. Plenty of thickness to get a good weld and like said before plenty of thickness for tapping threads for mounting anything. Next ride will be using it again.

I went with 2" X 4" X 1/8" wall...just seemed the closest to the original size.
Also added severl "Fish Plates" and "Gussets" in key spots just to be sure it would take the abuse of my heavy foot.

Our frame is 2x3 box, seems to holding up fine to my thrashing on it.  The front z is gusseted pretty good though.

.125 wall would work fine, and 3/16 even better
