Found a monster under a tarp
« on: July 17, 2016, 04:20:37 PM »
You'd never believe what I found today....I've been cleaning out my dads back yard. Trimming trees,plants,raking.I remember this motor as a teenager but I thought it was long gone.Dad had some wild plan to put it in the back of a corvair.Instead he used a caddy 500.Its been sitting outside,under a tarp for 15-20 years.A 1970 olds 455 toronado motor/trans.

In that year it had 400hp and 500ft lbs of torque.10.25 to 1 compression ratio.

It turns over by hand.{with a big bar.lol}

I may put some fuel and fire to it this week just for grins and giggles.

Will need rebuilt.But a cool find.

My little brother was getting 550 hp out of a MILD build on one of those twenty years ago!!  Very responsive to proper modification!!!

They used to use those 455 in a LOT of boats, way back when!  :) :) 8)
Always made plenty of power and were pretty easy on fuel use! :)
Also, You could go to just about ANY salvage and pick one up for around $150!
