New guy without a clue
« on: October 09, 2015, 08:27:43 PM »
Been lurking in here for a little while. I'm 51 years old with a part time shop and a full time job. I like to build projects every winter. (actually, I have alot of projects right now, just trying to thin them out) . I'm wanting to drop a 56 I.H pickup on a S10 frame, mention this on some other sites and your instantly flamed. Not sure I'm building a ratrod. I plan on painting it with a old look. Just wanted to say Hi before I jump in with post and questions.

Welcome to the nation bartman. Love to see pics of your builds. And yea, some of those other sites are funny that way. They don't appreciate our artistic builds.
Love building rat rods, driving mustangs, and building websites.

Are you the same bartman from another forum who had the build thread and videos of putting an AD Chevy PU on an S10 frame?

Greeting from s Illinois. It's your build,Design it to make you happy not some snob that spent 20-30 thousand on a bought car. I like shiny builds too. Also on this site as long as it's safe you'll never hear a bad word or comment.

Kinda the way I see it too. Its just funny how some sites look inviting up till you post your first post, then its time to leave before you even had a chance to offer something to that site.

Safe is the number one priority. I've seen some pretty unsafe builds at the car shows this year. Problem with those are, they will end up hurting someone else and not the designer. Seen alot of high dollar builds this year also. Thats fine as long as the gold chainer attitude doesn't accompany it. I have this truck sitting on a 73 1/2 ton frame right now, then I saw a I.H. truck on a S10 chasiss a few shows ago and I have the urge to build mine. I almost sold it too. I have a 74 I.H. scout to finish welding the sheet metal into and get running, then I'm selling that, a 60 impala to get driveable, and then I can dive into the truck project.

A few shots of the 56 when we set it on a 73 chevy half ton frame. Sits to high and its going to take a lot of fabbing to get it on this frame. Once I move it to the S10 frame I will have this for sale. Its painted all nice and pretty.

Here's the other project I have for this winter. A 1960 impala. For now we're going to patch in the floors, put all the trim back on, and finish the rust flame job I started on the front of it. It needs a radiator and some fine tuning on the engine. Not sure which rims I'm going with, the choice is the aluminum slots that are on it now or the factory wheels painted with some baby moons and grind the white walls wider.

Nice projects.
Thank you. I started a rust flame job on the 60, just gotta find the time to get back at it, now wood cutting season will start. I do plan to put a lot of time in the shop this winter. I want to have the 60 road worthy and a good deal done on the truck.
