1941 Ford convertible engine swap question
« on: July 19, 2015, 01:16:12 PM »
Well guys. Here goes the first post and question? I found a cheap 1941 ford convertible. I was wondering  if there is enough room for a idi 7.3. And what kind of mods would I have to do to it? I hope not many. Bare minimum. I think this build would have a very uniqueness to it :) please no bash on the build.

Well it can be done, but it's going to take some work to put that diesel in a car. First thing i would do is take measurements on the motor, across the motor and from the back to the front of the motor. Then see if those measurement will allow you to sit the motor in the engine bay....This way you'll get an idea on what you may have to cut or move inorder to fit the engine in the bay. Secondly, you will have to get a rough idea on the motor mount, chances are you are going to have to make your own mounts in order for the motor to sit in the bay. Next you will have to test fit the motor and see if the transmission will fit. I have a feeling you will have to cut the floor and firewall a bit so the new set up can fit. Once you get those done, you should be able to run the diesel.......Not an easy task, but it can be done. Since it is a big motor, it will take some work. Oh, welcome to the nation, it's great to meet ya.
