Front emblem repair '53 Pontiac
« on: June 26, 2014, 08:56:39 PM »
Hi, my question is; is there a way to remove or at least reduce the stress cracks in the front plastic emblem in my grill on my '53 Pontiac. I know I can replace it, but I am working on black lighting it. Thanks to 60 years of being out in the weather the original red and chrome finish is gone, so now it is clear. I finished off what was left of the chrome by soaking it over night in thick bleach, a trick I learned from model building which does not hurt the plastic. I painted the Indian head with the ring around it in red, so far I'm happy with that, but it has, for lack of a better term, stress cracks in it that are on the surface. I also know it's not the same type of plastic as used in modern car head lights today.
Of Corpse I drive a Hearse !!!

I would try painting epoxy onto it. Fills the cracks and creates a smooth, clear-gloss fiinsh. That's how I fix fishing poles.

PS: Don't blame me if it wrecks it   ???  Experiment on something inconspicuous first...
