to paint or or not to paint..That is the question????????
« on: August 26, 2011, 03:51:34 PM »
Been thinking about sould I paint my poject at some point or not....really like the look of Satin Black but these days you see it on everything, eben the gardeners truck, pretty sure he rolled it on.

Maybe a gloss Black...or just embrrace the rust and stich welds.

Seems like every point in a poject we have to decide the paint question, any thoughts?

Now that sounds cool!
Get too flat red and it would look like the old red oxide sander sealer we use to use on equipment.

Get a green or something DIFFERENT
Take a kid to a car or bike show...pass the hobby on to the next generation

Just because the paint is flat, don't make it a rat

Mine is going out the door like she ends up...kind of a dusty look right now and I like that...will look like it rolled out of a barn in storage for 20/30 years

I watched someone on television today mix up a rust colored paint to shoot as a base coat then shot a pale color on top of it.  Wet sanding through to the "rust" layer underneath.   It looked great!

I filed that idea away for possible future use as most of the bodys I've looked at around here for my next project would need a lot of new shiny sheet metal.

Yes, That does look very good if done right.  Beware however that some putists will say that
it's fake patina, but it still looks good if you take your time. You can take it  step further and
add three or more colors and give it the look of many coats of paint over the years.  I would
suggest you give thought to the sanding.  Removing paint in areas that would have naturally
faded over time, like the top of fenders etc.  Giving a real aged look...

That was the show Dustin.  :D

I can understand the "fake patina" thing,....but as long as I've been puttin' cars together.....there's always been someone who said something was wrong with one of them, and he would have never done it that way.

Heck, if we all agreed on everything.....all our cars would look exactly the same.  ;D

2 out of the 3 rat rods that won at kool deadwood nites were painted black..........Not saying to paint it, but it appears that people whom judge our rats, like paint.
Love building rat rods, driving mustangs, and building websites.

Rattle can it, if you don't like it or get tired of it use some graffiti remover and try again.

For example, my coupe was rattle canned Army Green when we picked it up....

We didn't like it, about 5 cans of  Goof Off graffitti remover and she looked like this.

Some imagination, and help from a friend and she ended up like this.  Get tired of it, well, more Goof Off and try something different.....

Very nice!

May have to do somthing with the body sooner, where I live is dry but gets very hot most of this month it has been over 100 deg., to cool off my garage I added a Evap cooler with helps but addes alot of mositure to the air this causes things to rust even faster than normal.

Well, here are all the photos we took of it before we removed the green..... The interior was done with green canvas as door panels and seat cushions as well.

I don't know we didn't like the way it looked that much.  Course the lack of a visor, to high of a grill shell, no color on the motor, and possibly doing the top black like we did might have made a big difference also?

Cheers
